About Gina Nelson

Artist and Instructor

I am dedicated to bringing art to life through vibrant paintings, live art performance, engaging art & painting classes and parties. Gina has a BA in Painting and Drawing. She spent a over decade creating custom paintings and interior murals for residences, designers and businesses in Portland. She loves to teach and found delight teaching painting years ago when she was working at Purple Easel- Paint and Sip Studio -teaching groups of 10 to 300!. Originally from Chicago, Gina has lived most of her adult life in Portland, right here in SE Portland.

What kind of paint do you use?

We use acrylic paint- a water based non toxic paint in the studio.

Do you create custom paintings? I have an idea for a painting will you help me create it?

Absolutely! Collaborating is an exciting process .I work with others to help design or create their vision.

Is the studio accessible?

Unfortunately, the studio is on the 2nd floor and does not have an elevator to that section of the building. However, there are many other areas of Taborspace that are wheelchair and mobility device friendly. We can plan to have a class in one of those other rooms - just reach out. Let's plan it!

How many painters are in a typical class?

Varies by class but max is usually 14 and min is 3.

What should I bring?

A curious attitude, something to drink and snack if you choose.

What should I wear?

We suggest you wear clothes that you don't mind getting paint on- acrylic paint is water based but does stain. Studio can get warm so wear layers.

Can I sit with my group?

Yes! Please give me a heads up so I can save seats togehter .

Can I take my painting home? What if I don't finish it?

Yes, Always. If you want to work on it more, plan to come to one of the Open Studio nights.

Do you offer private lessons ?

Yes, individuals and small groups for drawing and painting.

What can I do in the area? I am coming from a distance and want to explore?

Mt Tabor Park, Crema Coffee and Bakery, Mt TAbor neighborhood. Belmont and Hawthorne shopping areas., great restaurants.

What is Taborspace?

An amazing Community Center with 11 full time businesses and hourly rental space www.taborspace.com

What hours is Crema Coffee and Bakery open?

7 am to 5 pm Daily

How do I get to your studio once I arrive at 5441 SE Belmont ?

From main Belmont Entrance foyer, go left down hallway till it ends. Take Another Left and go up the stairs to the second floor. Studio is at the end of the hallway ahead of you.
